Updates and Other Collecting News From This Blog

Sorry I haven't updated this in years.  I don't collect a lot of hockey cards right now, but I'll try to do something about what I've collected in the past once I go through my collection.

2018-19 Upper Deck Artifacts Box Break Number Whatever

So I recently bought some more boxes of hockey cards including Upper Deck Series One and Two and Upper Deck Artifacts.  I'll detail all my cards in the "Collection Links" section of this website, but wanted to show some highlights and hits from my most recent Artifacts box.  So, here we go.

My two recent redemptions are of Blackhawks' rookie Henri Jokiharju and an autographed Rookie Relic Redemption of Elias Pettersson which will include his autograph and a piece of a jersey.  I'll post scans or pictures of them when I receive them.

2018-19 Upper Deck Series One Box Break #1

So, I finally finished doing the inventory for my first 2018-19 Upper Deck Series One box break and you can find a complete list of the cards here.  However, I thought I would post photos of some of the highlights and inserts from what I have collected from the set so far.

Somehow I got two Tuukka Rask Upper Deck Game Jersey cards, which is fine with me for now, even though I would prefer maybe a Connor McDavid instead of two Rask Game Jersey cards.

Auston Matthews and Jack Eichel.  Just about the only way this could have been better was if I received a Connor McDavid instead of Eichel.

All in all, it wasn't a bad box.  Did I say I'm a Connor McDavid fan?

Pages

I finally got out of idiot mode and put the links to my pages on one main page that you can find under the header.  This will make it much easier once I have a lot of collections to display.

2018-19 Upper Deck Artifacts Box Break #1

I decided to buy my first box of 2018-19 Artifacts a couple of days ago and just got around to opening and seeing the cards I got.  I've bought another box of Artifacts for this year that I'll get in the coming days.  Anyway, I pulled twenty-two cards from the regular set to go along with seven inserts and one rookie redemption card in the box which says is supposed to have thirty-two cards total.  However, I did end up with six numbered inserts plus a Divisional Artifacts jersey card and one Rookie Redemption card in a box which was supposed to have "3 Autograph, Memorabilia or Aurum Bounty Cards, plus 1 Rookie Redemption Card per box," so I guess quality of cards will well surpass the quantity of cards in this box.  So, here...we...go...

From the regular set I pulled the following cards:
9-Patrik Laine
15-Jake Virtanen
24-Ryan Johansen
29-J.T. Miller
31-Ryan Suter
34-Brad Marchand
37-Kyle Okposo
39-Jamie Benn
43-Nikolaj Ehlers
48-Jakub Voracek
53-Devan Dubnyk
56-Brandon Saad
58-Martin Jones
60-Jordan Eberle
62-Cory Schneider
63-T.J. Oshie
65-Tyler Toffoli
68-Gabriel Landeskog
81-Kyle Palmieri
83-Jordan Staal
87-Mark Scheifele
93-Christian Dvorak

The Rookie Redemption card is of an Oilers rookie, but I have yet to find out what his name is.  I'll try to update this (if I can remember) when I receive the card in my mailbox.  As far as the other inserts, here they are in no particular order:

I'm not very good a cropping photos from the scanner, but I believe that the pictures still speak for themselves.

Ondrej Pavelec 2015-16 Upper Deck Game Jersey

I got this in one of the boxes of 2015-16 Upper Deck Series 1 cards that I bought a couple of months ago.

Updated 2015-16 Upper Deck Series 1 Collection

So, I have all the base cards for the 2015-16 Series 1 set plus some inserts and extras of the base set.  I am currently only looking for Young Guns rookie cards at the moment.  I will be willing to trade the base set extras for a card or cards with comparable value, which will be difficult at the moment, I believe.  Once I get some other sets of hockey cards I'll put those on the page as well.

Carey Price 2015-16 Upper Deck Game Jersey

I got this in the box of 2015-16 Upper Deck Series One Hockey cards that I posted about a few days ago, although I have learned my lesson on a retail vs. hobby box, now.

Getting back into collecting cards again.

So, I've recently felt the urge to start collecting hockey cards again, albeit not to send out for autographs.  I just bought a 2015-16 Upper Deck Series One Hockey hobby box (NO Connor McDavid Young Gun) so I'm thinking about posting checklists eventually along with extra cards that I eventually get to put them up for trade.  I'll keep you updated.  Here is my list so far.

Pavel Datsyuk, From Russia With Love

Fan letter sent May 23, 2012.
3/3 Autographed cards returned February 14, 2013.

Sorry for the cheesy/gay sounding title but I just had to put it in there since I got the return on Valentine's Day.  Don't worry, I'm not that way...unless I find an opportunity to make someone laugh.  Datsyuk is probably one of my favorite players who never played for the Carolina Hurricanes, so getting this return was pretty awesome.  He has six goals and eight assists in 13 games so far this season.  Another one of Detroit's great late draft steals, as they got him 171st overall in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Datsyuk has 732 points in 745 career regular season games, and 94 points in 126 Stanley Cup Playoffs games.  Never mind he's a plus-213 for his career in the regular season and a plus-32 in the playoffs.

Jari Kurri

Retired player.  Purchased on eBay.  Currently serves as General Manager of the Finnish national team.  Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001.

A big part of the Edmonton Oilers five Stanley Cups, Jari Kurri scored 601 goals and recorded 1,398 total points in 1,251 regular season NHL games and 106 goals and 233 points in 200 Playoff games with the Oilers, Kings, Rangers, Ducks and Avalanche.  Kurri played for Jokerit of Finland's SM-liiga during the 1994-95 NHL lockout, regular season and playoffs, the team he played for before playing in the NHL.

Ted Lindsay

Retired player.  Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966.

Part of the Red Wings last Stanley Cup in 1955 before their 1997 return to glory, Lindsay won four Stanley Cups with the Red Wings during his time with the team.  He also won the Art Ross Trophy in 1950, was GM of the Red Wings from 1977-80 and coached the Wings for 29 games in 1980.

Rod Brind'Amour?

Fan letter sent May 17, 2011.
2/2 autographed cards received September 8, 2012.

Sorry about not getting these up sooner.  I actually forgot to finish them after getting the returns.  I go to Hurricanes signings occasionally and usually get most of the players to autograph an item, but I started going too late to get Rod's autograph.  I honestly can't understand the logic behind his autograph, as he doesn't even put his number...if it is his autograph.  Could someone who might be familiar with his auto help me out here and tell me if it's real or not?

Mike Richards

Currently with the Los Angeles Kings.
Fan letter sent 5/23/12.
3/3 autographed cards returned 1/24/13.

I sent this letter to Richards during the playoffs last season, I believe during their series against the Phoenix Coyotes.  As you can see I didn't have any Kings cards, and I still don't as I have not bought many cards in a while.

Guy Lafleur

Purchased on eBay.

Five Stanley Cups will certainly put your name in the history books, that is if three Art Ross Trophies, a Conn Smythe Trophy, two Hart Trophies and three Lester B. Pearson Trophies for being the MVP as voted on by the players won't by themselves.  But, poor Ted Lindsay, right after they come out with an award with his name all over, he has his own trophy broken at the NHL Awards in Las Vegas.  I guess the people there don't care so much about hockey history as they would in Toronto.  Anyway Guy Lafleur is the guy on the card and his autograph; sorry about the tangent, but that reminds me, I forgot to get the Lindsay autograph up here on Blogger...I'll do that in the next week or so.
